You can taste the watermelon, but it’s quite bitter which I’m guessing is the guava. Sadly I couldn’t taste the chilli which might have added a unique kick to the drink, but still it was a bit unusual all the same.

The second of three Ghost energy drinks from the USA that I’m trying – this time Warheads Sour Watermelon flavour. I’ve never tried Warheads but they appear to be a sour flavoured hard candy and I had plenty of sour sweets as a child, but I’ve no reference point to compare this drink against sadly. As a standalone drink it is both sour and watermelony, but very sickly and strong in flavour much like the blue raspberry one was. Not a great taste experience and not very refreshing.

As drinks go, this is quite a smooth but generally bland energy drink. It’s refreshing and inoffensive but it just doesn’t stand out. The most unusual thing about the drink is the colouring of the can. The pink inside the Rockstar star actually looks like someone left the can out in the sun and bleached a red star to pink.

I couldn’t taste the watermelon, but I could taste the strawberry. Do you know what? This is basically pink lemonade, like you get in the Irish supermarkets, but obviously with a massive caffeine hit. It’s nice and refreshing, just like pink lemonade is.

A nice mild-flavoured watermelon drink. Not too sweet or sickly, just gently fruity and easy to drink.

The can blurb states “No juice, tea, coffee or any tweaks to the Monster Energy blend. Monster Reserve is straight-up original Monster in new amazing flavours.”. You know what, I think they’re almost spot-on with that description. It does have something of the original highly sweetened Monster flavour to it, and the strong taste of synthetic watermelon there too. Looking at the nutritional information it’s clearly lower in sugar than the original blend used to be but that’s not a bad thing at all. This is actually quite a nice energy drink to consume, refreshing (not lemon-flavour refreshing), and not too sickly either.

Despite the fancy graphics and promise of watermelon and lime in a refreshing large can, this was actually a bit forgetful. Honestly, I finished the can and couldn’t remember much about what it tasted like really – it was just a bland background drink that was a bit watery and sweet. No distinct flavour at all unfortunately.

Not my favourite Monster Ultra flavour, but it’s smooth as always in-line with the Monster brand. The watermelon flavour is not too strong, quite sweet, and really needs to be drunk straight from the freezer. If you let it warm up, it’s really not as enjoyable. I could only find this drink in a multipack of 4 at Tesco, which was quite a lot to get through.

This is the summer edition for 2020, and they’ve chosen what should be a refreshing watermelon flavour. Sadly, they’ve taken that watermelon flavour and made it quite strong, amped up with a very syrupy sweetness which makes this drink quite sickly. It starts off nice, but becomes a bit of a chore to get all the way through – if they’d made it a little weaker then it would have tasted several times better.
