This is your basic clone drink… slightly sour and not the most refreshing of flavours, but it does the job.
How on Earth do you pronounce Xyber? Ex-eye-ber? Zyber? Cyber? Who knows… despite it being ‘orange’ in the name, it’s much more of a tropical drink. Quite refreshing, easy to drink, but quite furry on your teeth by the time you’ve finished it! There was an empty space on the shelf next to this one for another Xyber flavour and if I can track that one down it will be interesting – berries I think…

I know that Rockstar original has been out for a very long time, but somehow I’ve managed to avoid the sugar-free version of it. Rockstar is a great flavoured drink generally, and whilst I’ve categorised this as a clone it really does have its own distinct flavour. I’d definitely try this again… oh, and it’s very high in caffeine so watch out.

Wow, this is something very different. It’s sweet, a bit sickly, but so smooth in terms of its flavour. I’ve never tried an orange drink quite like it and it’s great! I’m typing this whilst drinking the can and I’m genuinely struggling for words to describe the taste – it’s more-ish, not too fizzy, and just generally a great drink. Not forgetting that it’s low in calories too. And… it contains a lot of caffeine so be careful. Easy to drink and high in caffeine can be a dangerous combination so be careful!

I had high hopes for this drink – a new premium brand energy drink for the first time in a while. Sadly though, whilst it was ok to drink, it wasn’t anything special at all. It was basically the same as any other bargain shop can of tropical flavoured energy drink, only at premium prices. Flavour-wise it was strong and artificial, and quite sickly after a while. Like the cherry flavour, this would have benefited from being sold as a smaller 250ml can.
A bit of a disappointment really. It was a very generic ‘berry’ flavour, but I’d say it was predominantly blackcurrant. Low in calories but due to the large can size you got quite a caffeine hit. Quite sickly to drink the final third of the can though!
Whereas the original flavour of Emerge Impact can be classed as an original drink in its own right when compared to its Emerge Dual predecessor, this sugar free version does not deserve the same crown. Yes, it is sugar-free, but it contains 3 calories/100ml (yes, a respectable effort) whereas the full fat version contains 9 calories/100ml. Unless you are actively avoiding sugar specifically, there’s very little reason to get the sugar-free variety. Taste-wise it’s slightly less flavourful, perhaps even tasting slightly watered down compared to the original version. Regular readers of this site will know that usually I prefer the sugar-free versions of drinks, however in this instance the combination of less sugar plus sweeteners in the original version have made it the better choice if you’re after flavour.

This is at first site a rebranded version of Emerge Dual, which itself was a re-brand of Emerge. In fact, they haven’t even updated the blurb on the back of the can which still states that “Emerge Dual is a great tasting energy drink…”. That may be true, but this isn’t Emerge Dual. In fact, look a little more closely at the nutritional information and you’ll see that it contains 9 calories/100ml. That’s very low, and I assume that the drink has been reformulated in order to avoid the UK sugar tax and keep its price low. Honestly, it tastes just as sweet as I remember it and you would be hard pressed to tell that it is effectively a lower calorie drink.
It’s Cherry Coke with a kick! Much nicer than normal coke in my opinion because the fruity cherry flavour makes the classic coke taste a lot lighter. Full of calories and caffeine, this drink is a great sugary summer beverage. If they did a sugar-free version it’d be even better!
