So this is what it tastes like when you mix a tropical drink with a cherry one. Tropical cherry. It’s certainly unique that’s for sure. I’m not sure if I actually like it or not, I mean, I don’t hate it, it’s just an assault on the senses is all, not what I’m expecting on my taste buds! You have the tartness from the tropical, plus the sherbettyness (new word, officially) from the artificial cherry flavouring. The name Raptor I’m assuming is referring to the Velociraptor dinosaur and not the birds of prey… and I’m basing that off the picture on the can!

I couldn’t taste the watermelon, but I could taste the strawberry. Do you know what? This is basically pink lemonade, like you get in the Irish supermarkets, but obviously with a massive caffeine hit. It’s nice and refreshing, just like pink lemonade is.

I’m wondering if this ‘ultra berry’ flavour replaces the ‘berry boost’ variety? It’s been so long since I tried berry boost that I can’t remember quite what it was like. I described it in my review as ‘like a mixture of strawberry and raspberry’, so perhaps Ultra Berry is a very different flavour. It’s more like a mixed berry, but on the sweet and summery side – I got blackcurrent in there, maybe some cherry and raspberry too.

It tastes exactly like the non-caffeinated version – mostly like sugary sweet cherry fizzy stuff. Maybe there’s other flavours in there too apart from cherry, like if you took a bag of Haribo, melted it down and tried to drink the mix of sugary random fruity fizzy gunk. It’s nice, not that refreshing given its overpowering sweetness, but certainly original.

A really nice and smooth grape-flavoured energy drink. It’s lower in caffeine than many other large-can drinks, which I think is no bad thing really. You get to enjoy the drink for longer without getting too jittery by the end! The flavour isn’t too strong, but very smooth as I said and no bitterness at all. A great addition to Aldi’s line of Monster-wannabee drinks.

Virtue. Clean energy. Healthy sounding. Healthy tasting. I think the peach is a bit too sharp to be nice personally, and they needed to ramp up the sweetness from the raspberry a bit I didn’t particularly enjoy this variety of Virtue due to that, but maybe it has its fans somewhere? It of course contains Yerba Mate (clue is in the name) which is a form of herbal tea from a South American plant related to holly according to Wikipedia! This is where the caffeine component of the drink comes from.
Cherry! In fact I drank this can the day after I tried Prime Energy Tropical and I’d have to say it’s exactly the same flavour. It’s a sweet and strong synthetic cherry flavoured drink. There’s a lot of it, and I chilled it again half-way through just to keep it at optimal drinking temperature, but I enjoyed it.

This isn’t what I’d call a usual tropical flavour at all, to me it tastes a lot more like fizzy cherry. Perhaps it’s the red can making me think that, but I’m not getting any of the usual passionfruit or mango notes at all, just slightly sour cherry. That’s nice, that’s for certain – it still has the now typical strong Prime Energy flavour profile that’s common to most of the variations, and it does get sickly for the second half of the can, but it’s nice enough.

I found this being sold at what looked like an American import pop-up shop in Cardiff and grabbed both flavours on offer. However, on closer inspection of the can whilst this is an American brand, it’s actually made in the UK for distribution here! It looks like the flavours available here in the UK are a little different to those in the US – this one is called Citrus Mist but according to their web site it’s called Citrus Dew in the US. Anyway, it’s really nice! A gentle and very refreshing lemon flavour in a large can, and it doesn’t tire the senses by getting too sickly. The balance of quantity and flavour is perfect and they’ve managed to create one of my favourite energy drinks in a while. It’s really in contrast to the strong, punchy and sickly flavours of the Prime Energy drinks that I’m also trying at the moment!
