Ghost Orange Cream
February 3rd, 2024Orange Cream, is that a thing? Maybe it’s an American thing because I’ve not heard of such a flavour before. I’ll tell you what this drink does remind me of though, did you ever go to a Little Chef restaurant as a child and get offered an orange lollipop after your meal? They were rectangular, orange on the outside and white on the inside and somehow stripped the skin from the roof of your mouth? Well, that’s the flavour – strong, orange, and sugary! Probably the best of the three flavours of Ghost I have tried so far.

Ghost Warheads Sour Watermelon
January 27th, 2024The second of three Ghost energy drinks from the USA that I’m trying – this time Warheads Sour Watermelon flavour. I’ve never tried Warheads but they appear to be a sour flavoured hard candy and I had plenty of sour sweets as a child, but I’ve no reference point to compare this drink against sadly. As a standalone drink it is both sour and watermelony, but very sickly and strong in flavour much like the blue raspberry one was. Not a great taste experience and not very refreshing.

Ghost Sour Patch Blue Raspberry
January 20th, 2024This is a new brand to me, I’m not sure if it’s well known or not in the USA but a friend brought a selection back from holiday for me to try. The can is totally plain but with a plastic wrap label like you tend to get on PR-sty;e custom made drinks for special events, however it doesn’t look or feel like a typical corporate brand can. The word ‘Ghost’ for example is embossed and the lettering / imagery on the yellow section of the label is textured. It has the feel of a premium drink. I had a look on their web site and there are about a dozen different flavours, quite a few of them seem to be partnered with various confectionary brand – Swedish Fish energy drink sounds amazing. This one, Sour Patch Kids, is a blue raspberry flavour. It does indeed taste of blue raspberry but sadly I don’t have any Sour Patch Kids sweets against which to compare. As a drink though, it was quite sickly. I drank the lot, don’t get me wrong, but it was a chore. Perhaps in their desire to closely match the flavour of the sweets, they forgot that if you eat massive bag of sweets you start to feel sick. Two other flavours to try though…

Vimto Energy Zero
January 13th, 2024Exactly the same as the regular full fat Vimto Energy only low in calories. Honestly, I couldn’t tell the difference, there was no strange aftertaste or ‘chewyness’ that you get sometimes with the sugar free variants. If you have the choice then you might as well go for this zero version.

Raptor Citrus
January 6th, 2024I love lemon energy drinks, and this one despite being generically named ‘citrus’ is pretty lemony. It’s refreshing and smooth, really nice. It has just the right balance of sweetness and sharpness and is low calorie too.

Raptor Tropical Cherry
December 23rd, 2023So this is what it tastes like when you mix a tropical drink with a cherry one. Tropical cherry. It’s certainly unique that’s for sure. I’m not sure if I actually like it or not, I mean, I don’t hate it, it’s just an assault on the senses is all, not what I’m expecting on my taste buds! You have the tartness from the tropical, plus the sherbettyness (new word, officially) from the artificial cherry flavouring. The name Raptor I’m assuming is referring to the Velociraptor dinosaur and not the birds of prey… and I’m basing that off the picture on the can!

Prime Energy Strawberry Watermelon
December 9th, 2023I couldn’t taste the watermelon, but I could taste the strawberry. Do you know what? This is basically pink lemonade, like you get in the Irish supermarkets, but obviously with a massive caffeine hit. It’s nice and refreshing, just like pink lemonade is.

Dark Thunder Ultra Berry
November 25th, 2023I’m wondering if this ‘ultra berry’ flavour replaces the ‘berry boost’ variety? It’s been so long since I tried berry boost that I can’t remember quite what it was like. I described it in my review as ‘like a mixture of strawberry and raspberry’, so perhaps Ultra Berry is a very different flavour. It’s more like a mixed berry, but on the sweet and summery side – I got blackcurrent in there, maybe some cherry and raspberry too.

Prime Energy Ice Pop
November 18th, 2023It tastes exactly like the non-caffeinated version – mostly like sugary sweet cherry fizzy stuff. Maybe there’s other flavours in there too apart from cherry, like if you took a bag of Haribo, melted it down and tried to drink the mix of sugary random fruity fizzy gunk. It’s nice, not that refreshing given its overpowering sweetness, but certainly original.
