XS Energy (XC Energy)
February 19th, 2014It’s a very large can of generically budget energy drink. It’s a sweet mix, but slightly watery even though it keeps a decent 31.5mg/100ml of caffeine in tow. Mega hit of energy, and a rather nice flavour. I’d buy it again. One thing you should note is that it appears to have changed its name. The can I purchased was named XS Energy, but the web site declares a name change to XC Energy, presumably because of a trademark issue or other such problem.

Boost Sugar Free
January 22nd, 2014I finally found Boost Sugar Free, but it’s not in a can. A 500ml bottle is all I could get hold of, and I really prefer to review 250ml can editions if at all possible. That said, it’s a nice yet unoriginal clone. Best chilled, of course, because being in a bottle it warmed up quite a bit by the time I’d got to the second half.

Auchan Energy Drink
December 28th, 2013Bottled by Refresco France for the Auchan chain of supermarkets, this is a clone. It’s bitter and not that nice to be honest – and the fact I could only find it in a litre bottle made the consumption of it even worse. After the first 500ml, I got used to the taste, but you shouldn’t need to do that with a drink! It’s also pretty light on the caffeine front with only 21mg/100ml. Avoid…

November 23rd, 2013Cheap tasting, watery, sour, pretty much all the things I find boring and unoriginal in a typical Red Bull clone. It does have a very slight aniseed taste to it which makes it bearable, but overall I wouldn’t bother again.

November 16th, 2013Discovered in a small duty-free shop on the main street in Gibraltar, this is another Red Bull clone. It’s nice, just unoriginal. It’s a Spanish drink which I’ve never seen sold anywhere else, but then again I don’t frequent Spain that often. It’s on the sweet side, comparable to the Aldi own-brand in taste.

November 6th, 2013Awesome name! Disappointing execution 🙁 If you’re going to name your energy drink after a massive bomber, you should at least go to the effort of altering the flavour slightly. It seems like they’ve developed a great design and concept, then filled the can full of “Mixture A: Generic Energy Drink”. Nearly there guys…
Black Energy Zero Sugar
November 2nd, 2013Usually you can taste the sweeteners in a low calorie energy drink especially when compared to its full fat cousin. This time, they’ve done an excellent job in making a zero sugar version taste just like the original. Other than that, I’ll refer you to the review of the original Black Energy because the drink is pretty much identical, including the Mike Tyson endorsement.

Power Booster Sugar Free
October 25th, 2013Much better (yes, I know I’m biased to sugar free drinks) than the full fat version, but not only due to the sweeteners. It appears to have a different taste to the sugary version – slightly more sour but not too much. It’s still a Red Bull clone, and a cheap tasting one at that so probably not worth hunting down if you’re in to that.

Heavy Water
October 12th, 2013A black can with white designed writing on gives this drink a premium look. It is, however, just another Red Bull clone although a nice one at that. It has a smooth flavour not too dissimilar to Red Bull, contains the same amount of caffeine, and even comes from Austria. Sadly, it was priced the same as Red Bull – and given the choice, I’d go for the original!
