Voltz Energy Shot
March 1st, 2014Does anyone else remember those lemon and orange jelly candy slices you used to get around Christmas time? They were quite thin, about an inch wide and coated in sugar? Well, that’s what this shot tastes like. It’s a pretty decent tasting drink – not sour or bitter, but sweet and citrusy (if that’s a word).

Amp Energy (UK)
December 14th, 2013It’s been a while since I tried the US version of Amp, so I can’t be 100% sure whether or not it tastes the same. It’s quite citrusy, with an almost pear-drop hint at the back of the tongue when you drink it. Now that I think about it, I don’t think it can taste the same as the US version. Looking back at that review I said how smooth the taste was and how similar it tasted to Mountain Dew. I’d have to say that this UK version does not remind me of Mountain Dew despite the logo plastered all over the can. It’s pretty good still, but I have better memories of the US version. I should also mention that whilst this drink is no where near low calorie, it is low by comparison to other similar drinks. With only 26kcal/100ml, it’s considerably lower than most other drinks which average at about 45kcal/100ml

Rip It – Citrus X Sugar Free
August 24th, 2013As with the full-fat version, I wasn’t too impressed with this drink. The sharp orange taste is just too overpowering. There are many other flavours in the Rip It range, so spend your money on those instead.

LSV Citrus Blast
August 15th, 2013Another string to the LSV bow, this time it’s citrus. Specifically, it tastes like lime and quite a strong mix of lime flavour too. Nice, but in large quantities I’d imagine it to be very sickly. If they did a sugar-free version of this drink though I’d drink it loads more because I enjoyed it.
Boost Citrus
July 27th, 2013Pretty good especially for the 20p I paid for it! It basically tastes like soda and lime, sweet and refreshing. It went down pretty easy, I could have drunk a couple in succession. Quite unusual for a ‘special flavour’ version of a budget energy drink – usually you get a tropical and berry, but citrus / lime is refreshingly different.

Lucozade Sport Elite Citrus
May 1st, 2013Brilliant! I have missed this drink – it used to be called Lucozade Fuel+Focus and it was my running drink of choice. Non-carbonated, sweet lemon flavour, and caffeine too, it was brilliant to keep you going. Thankfully they’ve brought it back and rebranded it as Lucozade Sport Elite (Citrus… there’s also an Orange version).

Red Bull – The Silver Edition
March 9th, 2013Do you remember the good old days when alcopops such as Hooch and Metz ruled the bars? Well, another member of that bygone family was the Smirnoff Mule, and the Silver Edition of Red Bull tastes pretty much as a remember that tasting, only with less vodka of course. The lime flavour is pretty strong and sour but works. Out of the three special editions, I’d put this one as my second favourite. It’s refreshing, but only just – any stronger and it’d be far too sickly.

Mountain Dew Energy – Game Fuel
October 13th, 2012Wow! I do love Mountain Dew, and it’s always annoyed me that you can’t get the same range of flavours here in the UK as our US cousins enjoy. Well, Game Fuel is at least a step in the right direction. Released as a special flavour in honour of the launch of Halo 4, this Citrus and Raspberry drinks tastes awesome. Unlike most other Mountain Dew varieties, this one isn’t fluorescent in colour either. It’s fruity and refreshing, and only (compared to other energy drinks) lightly caffeinated. I hope it is a permanent addition to the range.

Mountain Dew Sugar Free
August 11th, 2012Finally, the great flavour of Mountain Dew, without the calories that go with it. Sadly, this is a low calorie version of the UK version of Mountain Dew (dubbed Mountain Dew Energy), but nevertheless it’s nice and refreshing on a hot day. The flavour is identical to Mountain Dew Energy – I couldn’t even tell that they’d used sweeteners instead of sugar, so the flavours they added must be pretty potent.
