Take a packet of Starburst. Munch the whole lot, taking special care to get extra juicy flavour out of the blackcurrent ones. Now savour the aftertaste of all those sweets mixed together because that’s what this Mixed Fruit flavoured drink tastes like. It only seems to come in a large 1 litre bottle for some reason… maybe I’m just not looking hard enough. The taste is okay though and it’s pretty unique so far as supermarket own brand drinks go.

Bottled by Refresco France for the Auchan chain of supermarkets, this is a clone. It’s bitter and not that nice to be honest – and the fact I could only find it in a litre bottle made the consumption of it even worse. After the first 500ml, I got used to the taste, but you shouldn’t need to do that with a drink! It’s also pretty light on the caffeine front with only 21mg/100ml. Avoid…
Claiming to be Fairtrade where possible, the only ingredient listed as Fairtrade is the sugar, so technically I suppose that counts. It seems to me though to be a gimmick for the sake of a gimmick. Standing for Fair Exchange Energy Drink, F.E.E.D. is just another Red Bull Clone but with a difference – it’s on the sweet side for a clone and does have an unusual taste too. It’s borderline as a clone, but still a clone.
A pleasant Lucozade wannabe with a refreshing cherry flavour. It doesn’t pack much of a caffeine kick, but it’s still more than the orange version of this product which doesn’t even list any caffeine in the ingredients. Cheap and cheerful (cherryful?)
Watery. I guess on a run it might be quite refreshing – slightly flavoured so as to not be to sickly during high exertion. But, as an energy drink, it lacks a crucial detail of taste. It’s non-carbonated, yet caffeinated for an extra kick so it slips down easily and boots you several minutes later. Well, boot is probably the wrong word as it has a comparatively low caffeine content… maybe prod is a better word.

The strawberry and lime combination don’t work for me. The strawberry suffers from the sharpness of the lime, and the lime suffers from the chewy flavour of strawberry. There’s also not enough caffeine in this to be of any use in quenching my caffeine addiction so it’s little more than a thirst quencher. Original in flavour, I’ll give it points for that, but the execution isn’t as nice as the bottle looks. *Note, I’ve estimated the caffeine content as the product contains too little for them to mark it as high and state the actual content.

Better than the cranberry version, but not as good as the lemongrass. It really just tasted like orange Lucozade and not that special at all. I had high hopes for the new range of Lucozades, but to be honest there’s only the one of them which stands out. Go for the lemongrass flavour instead as it’s refreshing and different – if you want an orange Lucozade, get the original orange flavour instead

Wow! This makes a change to the usually watery tasting Lucozade Energy products. The taste of lemon is sweet, strong, tangy and refreshing making this possibly the best tasting Lucozade in the range. The lemon flavour is similar to the taste of a traditional lemonade – possibly on the synthetic side, but pretty much nailing an ideal balance. Strength-wise, most of the kick in this drink comes from the sugar, as you can see from the very high calorie content but low caffeine content. This does mean that you may end up with a head-ache and feeling a bit groggy a few hours later but I reckon it’s worth the downer for the occasional treat…

Brilliant! I have missed this drink – it used to be called Lucozade Fuel+Focus and it was my running drink of choice. Non-carbonated, sweet lemon flavour, and caffeine too, it was brilliant to keep you going. Thankfully they’ve brought it back and rebranded it as Lucozade Sport Elite (Citrus… there’s also an Orange version).
