As drinks go, this is quite a smooth but generally bland energy drink. It’s refreshing and inoffensive but it just doesn’t stand out. The most unusual thing about the drink is the colouring of the can. The pink inside the Rockstar star actually looks like someone left the can out in the sun and bleached a red star to pink.

So this is what it tastes like when you mix a tropical drink with a cherry one. Tropical cherry. It’s certainly unique that’s for sure. I’m not sure if I actually like it or not, I mean, I don’t hate it, it’s just an assault on the senses is all, not what I’m expecting on my taste buds! You have the tartness from the tropical, plus the sherbettyness (new word, officially) from the artificial cherry flavouring. The name Raptor I’m assuming is referring to the Velociraptor dinosaur and not the birds of prey… and I’m basing that off the picture on the can!

It’s fizzy Vimto but full of caffeine! For the international audience, Vimto is a British soft drink, usually sold as squash (cordial) to be diluted with water. I’ve checked Wikipedia and it turns out it’s also one of the most popular soft drinks in many Arab countries too! Anyway, it’s flavoured with grape, blackcurrant and raspberry, has a slightly medicinal taste to it, but is very refreshing. What they’ve done here is make it fizzy (I’ve never had Vimto carbonated before so that’s a first, I might be using it with the Sodastream now!) and packed it full of caffeine. It’s a good combination, certainly full marks all around and one of the better energy drinks I’ve had in recent years.

I couldn’t taste the watermelon, but I could taste the strawberry. Do you know what? This is basically pink lemonade, like you get in the Irish supermarkets, but obviously with a massive caffeine hit. It’s nice and refreshing, just like pink lemonade is.

I’ve seen many annual updates of the summer edition of Red Bull but this is the first winter edition I’ve come across. The spiced pear flavour is a bit like pear drops mixed with cinnamon and I was expecting something tart and sickly. Instead I was very pleasantly surprised as this was a subtle flavour and really easy to drink. I’d definitely have this again!
I’m wondering if this ‘ultra berry’ flavour replaces the ‘berry boost’ variety? It’s been so long since I tried berry boost that I can’t remember quite what it was like. I described it in my review as ‘like a mixture of strawberry and raspberry’, so perhaps Ultra Berry is a very different flavour. It’s more like a mixed berry, but on the sweet and summery side – I got blackcurrent in there, maybe some cherry and raspberry too.

It tastes exactly like the non-caffeinated version – mostly like sugary sweet cherry fizzy stuff. Maybe there’s other flavours in there too apart from cherry, like if you took a bag of Haribo, melted it down and tried to drink the mix of sugary random fruity fizzy gunk. It’s nice, not that refreshing given its overpowering sweetness, but certainly original.

A really nice and smooth grape-flavoured energy drink. It’s lower in caffeine than many other large-can drinks, which I think is no bad thing really. You get to enjoy the drink for longer without getting too jittery by the end! The flavour isn’t too strong, but very smooth as I said and no bitterness at all. A great addition to Aldi’s line of Monster-wannabee drinks.

Just a typical orange flavoured energy drink, nothing special and certainly it doesn’t stand out like the cloudy lemonade flavour. Mild and a bit boring really 🙁
